For the exquisite corpse project my goal was to create a piece that inspired nostalgia. I led into the song with a voicemail I had saved from my dad. It was slightly personal to me because he passed away a little over a year ago. I wanted to use everyday sounds and make it sound almost like a memory to show how different life is without him. For example I had my water bottle, the sound of my walk to campus, a river, some birds, water boiling, running up the stairs, a party ect. All of the sounds I picked I purposefully chose to be representative of activities or moments in my regular life. I used a reverb and echo effect to achieve this distant sort of shiny sound. Making this piece sound the way I wanted it to was really important to me because it was so personal. I really liked the way the effects on the sounds turned out and I think the themes of nostalgia and distance were obvious as many people mentioned these in the critique. Listening to that voicemail is sometimes emotional for me but I used it to lead into some relaxing noises from nature which I also thought turned out well. In the future I would like to understand the different audio effects a little more in depth.
