ARTIST STATEMENT

I have been making art for a couple of years now and never really explored digital art. I saw that CU offered a class on it and thought it would be a cool and interesting way to expand my knowledge and practice of art. I also took a sculpture class my freshman year of college but other than that I have no real education in art. I tend to draw and my predominant medium is pen and sometimes pencil. I really enjoy drawing eyes and faces with lots of color. I also think that black and white pen drawings are fun sometimes too. My art is influenced by a combination of art and artists that I find interesting along with my emotions.

I like to make art because it is a form of release and expression for me. Whenever I find myself overwhelmed, sad, or bored, ect., I find sitting down and creating something is a rewarding way to let go of these emotions and calm my mind. I find myself forgetting about everything else and just purely focusing on the project in front of me. I wouldn’t say my art always says something, sometimes I just create things that I think look cool or interesting. When it does say something, however, it is usually an expression of an emotion I am feeling. I try to use colors, facial expressions, and patterns to express those emotions. I think art in general is often influenced by emotion and a lot of great art comes from people who had nowhere else to express these emotions.
